After assuming the roles of Board Member and CEO of Digitürk in 2015, he managed the sales process of Digitürk to BeIN Media Group. At the end of 2016, he joined Türk Telekom family as Executive Vice President responsible for Sales and Customer Services; in December 2018, he was appointed as Executive Vice President responsible for Marketing and Customer Services, and in August 2019, he became the CEO of the company. Since March 2022, he has also been serving as a Member of the Board of Directors at Türk Telekom.

With over 20 years of experience in the media and communications sector, Önal has made significant contributions to the profound transformation of Turkish media and has lead Türkiye’s digital and technological transformation within Türk Telekom until October 2025. He continues to serve as a Member of the Board of Directors of Türk Telekom and, as of October 24, 2025, has been appointed President of the Cybersecurity Authority under the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye by Presidential Decree.

Throughout his career, Mr. Önal has actively participated in national and international associations. He served as Chairman of the Board of the Mobile Telecommunications Operators Association (m-TOD) in 2020 and 2022 and continues to hold memberships in the International Investors Association (YASED) and the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK) – U.S. Business Council.

He is also a Member of the Board of Directors at ULAK Communications Inc.
