Domestic 5G-Powered Smart Ecosystem Initiative by Teknopark Istanbul and ULAK
Teknopark Istanbul, one of Türkiye’s leading technology development zones, has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with ULAK Communication Inc., a prominent company in the field of national communication technologies.
The 17th International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF 2025), where Anadolu Agency (AA) serves as the “Global Communication Partner,” is being held at the Istanbul Expo Center (IFM), hosted by the Ministry of National Defense, supported by the Presidency of Defence Industries, and organized under the management and responsibility of the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation by KFA Fuarcılık AŞ.
As part of IDEF 2025, a cooperation protocol was signed between Teknopark Istanbul and ULAK Communication Inc., a leading company in the field of national communication technologies. The protocol aims to strengthen Teknopark Istanbul’s digital transformation with a Private 5G infrastructure and to implement smart campus applications.
Under the agreement, the domestically developed Private 5G technology by ULAK will be actively used in Teknopark Istanbul’s R&D, entrepreneurship, and production processes. Thanks to the high-speed, low-latency, and secure communication infrastructure, the ongoing activities across the campus will become more efficient, integrated, and innovative.
This collaboration will offer significant added value in prototyping, testing, lab integration, and data security processes for companies operating in critical sectors such as defense industry, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, aviation, and advanced material technologies.
Additionally, innovative applications such as smart building systems, sensor-based security solutions, autonomous transport technologies, and video analytics systems will also be deployed over the domestic 5G network throughout the campus.
“We are launching our smart campus ecosystem supported by domestic Private 5G infrastructure”
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Teknopark Istanbul General Manager Prof. Dr. Abdurrahman Akyol stated that they had taken another important step in their digital transformation journey and said:
“With the strategic cooperation protocol we signed with ULAK Communication, we are launching our smart campus ecosystem supported by domestic Private 5G infrastructure at Teknopark Istanbul.”
Akyol noted that the cooperation not only provides a high-speed and secure communication infrastructure but also enables all companies on campus to conduct their R&D, entrepreneurship, and production processes in a more integrated, efficient, and innovative manner.
“We believe that this strategic step taken together with ULAK Communication will accelerate the technology development processes of our companies and entrepreneurs and lay the groundwork for globally competitive solutions,” he added.
ULAK Communication General Manager Ruşen Kömürcü also expressed his pride in activating national 5G infrastructures in a technology hub like Teknopark Istanbul, saying:
“This cooperation once again proves that our Private 5G systems are not just communication infrastructures, but also fundamental pillars of innovation, production, and secure digital transformation.”
Kömürcü emphasized that the signed protocol will support Teknopark Istanbul’s high-tech-focused vision and also contribute to Türkiye’s mission of leading civil applications of Private 5G technologies. He added, “The solutions to be developed will serve as examples for many structures, primarily technology development zones, industrial clusters, and university campuses.”
