March 8 | 2025

R. Ruşen Kömürcü, Ph.D., General Manager of ULAK Communications, stated at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025: “Our primary goal is to upgrade our existing operator sites with 5G and subsequently take part in their newly established sites.”

Speaking to an Anadolu Agency (AA) correspondent at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, Kömürcü provided insights into the current state of 5G technology.

Highlighting that ULAK Communications has participated in MWC multiple times, Kömürcü emphasized that this year’s event has been particularly significant. He noted that, as Türkiye prepares for the transition to 5G, ULAK Communications has secured crucial agreements related to this technology.

Kömürcü pointed out that ULAK Communications has signed a contract with Turkcell covering 3,250 base stations. Additionally, he underscored another key agreement signed with Türksat, Türkiye’s sole satellite operator, under the coordination of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure to establish an intelligent transportation corridor. Furthermore, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed with Türk Telekom regarding the procurement of 5G base stations. Kömürcü described the event as highly productive, stating that ULAK Communications successfully showcased its capabilities and formalized agreements with Türkiye’s critical institutions.

“We Strive to Stand Out in Private 5G with Domestic Solutions”

Kömürcü explained that ULAK Communications showcased its solutions in two main areas at the event. He elaborated on the company’s product portfolio as follows:

“Our products include 5G hardware and the software solutions integrated into them. Additionally, we focus on value-added vertical services and communication-related products. At MWC 2025, 5G took center stage. ULAK Communications has deployed over 3,200 base stations across Türkiye for 4.5G services, with nearly half of them operating under three different commercial operators. Our primary objective is to upgrade our existing operator sites with 5G and later expand our presence in newly established sites. In this regard, our discussions with all three commercial operators are ongoing.”

Kömürcü also addressed the topic of Private 5G, emphasizing its applications in factories, industrial zones, technoparks, and mining sites. He stated that ULAK Communications is actively engaging with industrial stakeholders to offer tailored solutions for these environments and aims to stand out with domestic and national technologies in this field.
