From 2005 to 2008, he served as an Assistant Professor at Yıldız Technical University, where he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2008 and to Full Professor in 2013. He is the founding head of the Department of Control and Automation Engineering at the same university and served as its chair between 2009 and 2013, during which he played a key role in launching several graduate programs.

Between 2007 and 2010, Prof. Dr. Görgün represented Türkiye in the European Union’s 7th Framework Programme (FP7) for Energy. He also held various academic and administrative roles at Yıldız Technical University, including memberships in the Technopark Board, the Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit (BAP), and the Board of the Applied Science Research Center. From 2010 to 2013, he served as Editor-in-Chief of the YTÜ Sigma Journal of Engineering and Science.

He later served as the Director of the Institute of Science and as Vice Rector at Yıldız Technical University. In 2013, he was elected as an Associate Member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA). From 2014 to 2018, he served as the Rector of Gebze Technical University, where he significantly advanced university–industry collaboration. During his tenure, he was recognized as “Rector of the Year” for four consecutive years (2015–2018).

Prof. Dr. Görgün has served on the Board of Directors of Bilişim Vadisi (Informatics Valley) and held various positions in key national institutions such as TÜBİTAK and the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). He also served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the Executive Board of the Gebze Technical Education and Research Foundation. In addition, he has held roles at various institutions, including membership on the Board of Directors of the METU Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) Research and Application Center and the Board of Trustees at OSTİM Technical University.

He was first appointed to the ASELSAN Board of Directors on March 15, 2017. At the Ordinary General Assembly held on April 2, 2018, he was re-elected as a Board Member and appointed Chairman of the Board on the same day. Subsequently, on April 17, 2018, the Board of Directors appointed him as ASELSAN’s CEO, a role he officially assumed on April 27, 2018.

On June 5, 2023, the President of the Republic of Türkiye, H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, appointed Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün as President of the Defence Industry Agency of Türkiye. He also currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation.
