Turkcell and ULAK Take a Joint Step Toward 6G

March 4 | 2026

Turkcell and ULAK Communications have signed a strategic cooperation agreement aimed at developing 6G and next-generation network technologies.

According to a statement by Turkcell, Turkcell and ULAK Communications are collaborating on 6G and next-generation connectivity technologies. With the agreement signed at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) held in Barcelona, Spain, the two companies have decided to jointly develop the network infrastructures of the future.

The collaboration will focus on 6G architectures, Open Radio Access Networks (O-RAN), and AI-powered network management. New technologies will first be developed in laboratory environments and then tested under real field conditions.

Based on the outcomes of these studies, Turkcell and ULAK will jointly design future connectivity technologies with tangible products and solutions.

In the next phase, solutions deemed suitable will move into the productization stage. The agreement also includes plans to jointly apply for national and international R&D projects and to contribute to standardization efforts.

“With the vision of Turkcell, we will also be pioneers in 6G”

In the statement, Turkcell CEO Ali Taha Koç noted that they have been continuously working on 5G preparations since 2016 and that all preparations have been completed for the first 5G signal to be launched on April 1.

Emphasizing that they will continue to develop and produce technologies to ensure Türkiye has a strong voice in the networks of the future, Koç stated:

“As the operator with the broadest frequency portfolio and the largest 5G investments, we have now entered an era where investment power and technical capability speak for themselves. Since its establishment, Turkcell has been a game changer in mobile communications. Thirty-two years ago, we introduced Türkiye to the first ‘hello’ on mobile phones, and today we are leading the 5G transformation. This new collaboration with ULAK demonstrates our determination to start working on 6G today, going beyond 5G. With the vision that defines Turkcell, we will also be pioneers in 6G.”

ULAK Communications CEO Sami Duman stated that they are working to increase the share of domestic technologies in Türkiye’s communications infrastructure.

Highlighting that the company has built a strong technical foundation with the solutions developed so far, Duman said:

“This collaboration with Turkcell will take this experience further in the fields of 6G and open network architectures. 6G means higher speeds, lower latency, and smarter network management. In this transformation, we aim to be both a developer and an implementer in the field. Through joint R&D efforts, we will test next-generation solutions and produce concrete outcomes. We will continue our efforts to build a strong domestic ecosystem in Türkiye’s communications infrastructure.”
